报告摘要:

This talk will first introduce the applications of high-speed ADCs, including 5G wireless and other mm-wave wireless systems, wireline data communication systems including electrical and optical channels, as well as direct RF sampling.  Then, various high-speed ADC architectures will be reviewed and their advantages and limitations will be discussed and compared.  A new architecture with improved power efficiency called partially active flash ADC together with other possible new architectures will be discussed.  This talk will also discuss the metastability issue.  As the ADC speed increases, the comparator metastability rate will increase dramatically to degrade BER performance which is critical for communication circuits.  Last, wide-bandwidth comparator offset calibration methods will be discussed to improve ADC speed without time interleaving.

 

报告人简介:

Prof. Jin Liu received the B.S. degree in Electronics and Information Systems from Sun Yat-Sen University in P.R. China in 1992, the M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Houston in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999.  She joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas as an assistant professor in 1999 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2005 and Professor in 2012.

 

Prof. Jin Liu’s research is in the analog integrated circuit design field with applications to high-speed data communications and remotely-powered wireless transponder technologies.  Some specific projects includes high performance ADCs for wireline and wireless communications, high-speed delay design for FIR filters, energy harvesting and low power ICs for IoT devices and biomedical implants.  She has over 70 journal, conference papers and patents and graduated 11 Ph.D. students and 3 M.S. students.  Her research has been supported by National Science Foundation, Semiconductor Research Corporation, Texas Instruments, Inc., Intel Corp., Huawei, DARPA, Texas Emerging Technology Fund, and Texas Medical Consortium.  Prof. Jin Liu served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II from 2004 to 2007.  She has been in the Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society since 2005.  She has been serving as a member of technical program committee and session chair of IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference and IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems.  She also served as proposal review panelist and proposal reviewer for National Science Foundation, National Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and Hong Kong Research Grants Council.  She was one of the top 12 New Faces of Engineering for the national engineering week in 2004.
